TRADE: Dodgers & A's Complete Deal for Recent Stolen Base Champion

He finished his rookie season leading the American League with 67 stolen bases for the Oakland A's. But it's been a big comedown for Dominican outfielder Esteury Ruiz since then, as the 26-year-old was designated for assignment by the A's on March 30.

Now he's been dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league pitcher Carlos Duran.

Esteury batted .254 with 24 doubles and five homers in his 2023 rookie season to go along with those 67 steals, but last year he hit just .200 and stole just five bases in 65 plate appearances, and lost his centerfield job to JJ Bleday.

Ruiz, 26, will now report to Triple-A Oklahoma City and try to work his way up to be a depth piece for the Dodgers.

Duran, 23, had a 2.08 ERA at Oklahoma City this season with eight strikeouts in 4.1 innings. But he has a 4-20 record with a 4.06 ERA across in 82 minor league games.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Kyle Hurt to the 60-day injured list.
