Shocking Name Among List of MLB's 5 Most Likely Trade Candidates This Season

Certain players have come up over and over again as the most likely major leaguers to be traded at some point this season. But in the latest list, from Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report, a surprising name has emerged.

First, a look at this list of Top 5 Most Likely Trade Candidates in 2025:

  1. Luis Robert Jr., Chicago White Sox
  2. Carlos Correa, Minnesota Twins
  3. Ryan Helsley, St. Louis Cardinals
  4. Martin Perez, Chicago White Sox
  5. Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins

Four of those names are frequently heard on the rumor mill as strong candidates to change uniforms this season. But one of these things is not like the others.

The Minnesota Twins like to hold up shortstop Carlos Correa as an important team leader. But after two other MLB teams rescinded huge long-term free agent deals with Correa due to failed medicals two years ago, the Twins swallowed hard and gave him a six-year, $200 million deal, regardless.

But after playing a reasonable 135 games in the first year of the contract in 2023, Correa only managed to play 86 games in 2024, and left the Twins' game on Wednesday with left wrist soreness. He's also batting just .164 with only four RBIs through 18 games this season, with a .473 OPS and an equally woeful 36 OPS+.

Correa has played 110 games or less in six of his 10 big league seasons before this one.

Per Kelly, for the Twins, "It's clear that building its lineup around three injury-plagued stars—Correa, Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis—probably isn't going to be a winning formula. If there's a chance to trade Correa's remaining contract and get a decent return, the Twins might jump on it."

As for the top name on this list, Robert Jr., we looked at five teams that have been said to be in on him.

The other three are obvious trade candidates, on teams that are deep into a rebuild and are looking to recoup some young assets in return.
