Seattle Mariners Sign Two Veteran Pitchers
Both pitchers were initially cut following underwhelming Cactus League performances, but the Mariners have opted to retain them with new minor league deals after re-evaluating their bullpen depth and keeping the door open for experienced arms.

Pomeranz, 36, last pitched in the majors in 2021 and has been trying to work his way back after multiple injury setbacks, including flexor tendon surgery.
Despite a rocky spring—4.70 ERA in 7.2 innings—the 2016 All-Star lefty showed enough flashes for Seattle to take another look. “Drew’s track record speaks for itself when healthy,” said manager Scott Servais. “We know what he’s capable of, and we’re giving him every opportunity to get back to that level.”
Pomeranz split time last year between the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants organizations but didn’t appear in a major league game.
Hahn, 35, also hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2021 due to shoulder issues, but he made a solid impression with Triple-A Tacoma late last season and was praised by coaches during camp.
His spring ERA ballooned to 11.25 over eight innings, though his ability to generate strikeouts remained intact. “Jesse’s been grinding and has made some real progress,” pitching coach Pete Woodworth said.
“We’re happy to keep working with him.” With neither player securing a spot on the Opening Day roster, both will now report to Tacoma and remain potential call-up options should injuries or performance issues arise during the season.
