TRADE: Rockies Bring Back Infielder In Deal With Rangers

Colorado Rockies Alan Trejo during 2024 game.

The Colorado Rockies are turning to a familiar face for help during one of the roughest starts in franchise history.

The Rockies reacquired infielder Alan Trejo from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations and immediately added him to the 40-man roster. Trejo, who debuted with Colorado in 2021 and appeared in 174 games over four seasons, said he was “shocked” to get the call but thrilled to return to the only big-league team he had ever known.

Alan Trejo’s Return to the Rockies’ Infield

Trejo’s journey over the past year has been a winding one. After being designated for assignment by Colorado last summer, he spent time with the Los Angeles Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate and then signed with Texas over the offseason.

Although he struggled early in 2025 with Triple-A Round Rock — hitting just .211 in 19 games — the Rockies were in desperate need of infield help with Ezequiel Tovar and Thairo Estrada sidelined, and Aaron Schunk recently hitting the injured list as well.

Despite Colorado’s dismal 4-22 start, Trejo’s excitement to rejoin his old teammates was unmistakable. “You leave a place and think you’ll never see those guys again," Trejo said. "Next thing you know, you’re coming back, and they’re the first ones to call you."

As the Rockies fight through injuries and early season struggles, Trejo's versatility and familiarity with Coors Field could be a welcome addition to try and help stabilize an infield that's been stretched thin.
