MLB Trade Rumors: Phillies Land Luis Robert Jr. In Big Proposed Trade
The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a tremendous 8-1 start to the season heading into Saturday's play. But that's largely on the strength of their tremendous pitching staff and the stars littering their infield and DH spots.
The outfield? That's another story. Currently, all three of their main OFs (Max Kepler, Brandon Marsh, Nick Castellanos) have questions about either their durability or consistency in performing. Adding a true star like Luis Robert Jr. would be a huge boost. He's been linked on the rumour mill to Philly since the end of last season.
Tyler Ward of Bleacher Report proposes the following trade that would finally land Robert in the City of Brotherly Love to shore up their outfield:
To Philadelphia Phillies:
- Luis Robert Jr., OF
To Chicago White Sox:
- Alec Bohm, 3B
- Brandon Marsh, OF
- Key prospects
Robert, if healthy, is a five-tool talent, with speed, power, defense and a great hit tool. Putting him in a lineup with the likes of Bryce Harper, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber would make the Phillies awfully tough to beat.
The question, of course, is, can he stay healthy? He's played more than 100 games just once in his five seasons.
Robert is off to a slow start in 2024 with just four hits through 28 plate appearances, but in 2023, when he had his first full season without injury, he blasted 38 homers with 80 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He stole another 23 last season but was only able to play in 100 games.
He has a .266 lifetime average with a .785 OPS.
The Phils could move Edmundo Sosa over to the hot corner to replace Bohm, who would head to Chicago in this hypothetical deal to provide them with a solid, everyday, veteran contributor, at a still-young 28. He was a first-round pick, 3rd overall, in the 2018 MLB Draft. A seasoned, strong player for the White Sox to plug into their lineup if this were to come to fruition. Bohm has driven in 97 runs in each of the last two seasons.
