MLB Trade Rumors: Ideal Trade Fit Named for White Sox CF Luis Robert Jr.

Luis Robert Jr., despite a woeful start to the 2025 season, is one of, if not THE, top trade candidates out there this season. Yes, he's batting just .145 at the moment. Yes, he's 1-17 with runners in scoring position. But the 27-year-old has shown loads of talent in his short MLB career (made even shorter by all his injuries, however). He can hit, hit for power, run, steal bases and defend at a high rate in centerfield.

Perhaps all he needs is to get out of the losing situation that envelops the White Sox, and into a winning environment in order to turn it all around.

And while we had a look earlier this month at 5 potential landing spots for Robert Jr., as named by an MLB Insider and former GM, one more "ideal" trade fit has emerged.

As noted by Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, the New York Mets have a serious need in center field. Yes, the team is on a sizzling run with a 7-game winning streak that has them with a 5-game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies for top spot in the NL East.

But if they want to stay there, they'll need to plug a gaping hole, both offensively and defensively, in center field. They currently rank dead last in the majors with a dreadful .459 OPS from their centerfielders, 29th in slugging at .233, 28th in batting average at .163, with zero home runs.

Between Tyrone Taylor and Jose Siri, the two main occupants of CF for the Mets this season, they hold a combined negative-0.6 fWAR this season, notes Miller.

If any team could use the immense talents of Robert Jr.—when he's right—it's the New Yorkers.

Robert Jr., when he's able to stay healthy and on the field, has been a Silver Slugger and an All-Star, even with some down-ballot MVP votes. He blasted 38 homers with 20 stolen bases and an .857 OPS in 2023, his one fully healthy season (145 games).

If the Metropolitans are able to land him in a trade, there might be no stopping the Mets Express this season.
