MLB Rumors: Yankees Eye $56 Million Ace as Trade Rumors Intensify
With their rotation struggling after injuries to Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Marcus Stroman, and a 4.69 ERA among starting pitchers ranking near the bottom of the league, New York is expected to be aggressive in pursuing top-tier pitching help.
Alcántara, the 2022 NL Cy Young winner, fits the bill despite a rocky return from Tommy John surgery. He’s posted a 6.56 ERA through five starts this season, but his velocity, ground-ball rate, and stuff are beginning to resemble his dominant form from a few years ago.
Ronny Henriquez will pitch the seventh for Miami, bringing Sandy Alcantara's day to a close. His final line:

Alcántara is signed through 2026 with a club option for 2027, making him more than a rental — and a potential centerpiece for any team hoping to make a deep playoff run.
According to Bob Nightengale, the Marlins will likely entertain serious offers by late July, and the Yankees “will be doing everything possible” to land him.
Miami isn’t in a rush to move him but is expected to listen, especially given their slow start to the season and the chance to extract a hefty return. Nightengale even suggested the price could rival or exceed what the San Diego Padres paid for Juan Soto in 2022.
There’s no reason for Peter Bendix to trade Sandy Alcantara now - and that’s fine

Hopefully he can get back to what he once was but you don’t need to force a trade for a subpar package
Payroll is next to nothing next year so his salary makes zero difference
Feel for the guy 😕
Despite a farm system ranked in the league’s bottom third, the Yankees may have enough prospect capital to get it done.
Young arms like Ben Hess, Bryce Cunningham, and Will Warren — all highly regarded and off to strong starts — have surfaced as possible trade chips. While New York is unlikely to part with top prospect George Lombard Jr., the team’s rotation needs are pressing, and pairing Alcántara with Max Fried and Carlos Rodón could give them the playoff-caliber frontline they’re missing.
With a wide-open American League and a loaded offense led by Aaron Judge, the Yankees could see Alcántara as the missing piece to a championship push.
