MLB Rumors: Mets Stars Pushing For Trade For One Specific Player
Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Starling Marte all spoke to reporters after facing Alcantara in a recent 4-2 loss, voicing their admiration for the 2022 NL Cy Young winner and expressing hope that he could soon join them in Queens.
“It would be one of the best trades that we could have,” Soto said. “I know we have great pitching here, but adding a Cy Young winner like that would be huge.”
Multiple members of the Mets tell @NYPost_Mets that they would like to see the team pursue Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara if he became available via trade:

Alcantara, who missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery, looked sharp in his second start of the season, allowing two runs over five innings with four strikeouts.
Despite being under contract through 2026 with a $21 million club option for 2027, trade rumors continue to swirl due to the Marlins’ rebuilding status. Mets players have taken notice of Alcantara’s dominance and mental toughness, with Lindor saying, “You add Soto, it’s going to help the team. You add Alcantara, and it’s going to help the team.”
Marte, who played with Alcantara in Miami, added, “He has the stuff and the mental makeup to be able to play in New York.”

With Kodai Senga returning from injury and several rotation members—including Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas—still working their way back, the Mets’ need for a true No. 1 starter is clear.
Alcantara, 29, is seen as someone who could front the rotation and give New York a chance to go toe-to-toe with elite arms like Zack Wheeler, Chris Sale, or Blake Snell come October.
“Whenever he goes to a winning team, you are going to see what Sandy Alcantara is capable of,” Soto said. For now, the Mets are watching and waiting, but their clubhouse voices are making it known: they want Alcantara in blue and orange.
