Minnesota Twins Trade For Infielder After Solid 2024 Season

The Minnesota Twins have acquired infielder Jonah Bride from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.

The 29-year-old was designated for assignment by Miami after a slow start to the 2025 season, going just 4-for-40 with 15 strikeouts and a .300 OPS. Despite those struggles, Bride was a productive bench piece for the Marlins last year, posting a .276/.357/.461 line with 11 home runs and a 123 wRC+ over 71 games.

He brings experience across the infield, having played first, second, and third base in his MLB career.

This move comes at a time when Minnesota’s infield depth has been tested by injuries. Matt Wallner was placed on the injured list with a hamstring issue, and Willi Castro exited Wednesday’s win over the New York Mets with oblique tightness.

Carlos Correa is also dealing with ongoing wrist soreness, while Royce Lewis remains out with a strained hamstring. José Miranda was recently sent down to Triple-A but landed on the minor league IL shortly after due to a hand injury.

With multiple players sidelined, Bride gives the Twins another infield option who is capable of filling in on the left side.

Although Bride is out of minor league options and off to a rough start at the plate this season, his solid walk rate and past offensive production give Minnesota reason to take a chance on him.

The Twins opted to make a low-risk move rather than rush a top prospect into the big leagues before they’re ready. If Bride can rediscover some of his 2024 form, he could provide meaningful depth while the roster gets healthier.
