Dodgers Claim Pitcher Off Waivers From Yankees
Gómez, 25, was once a top-30 prospect in the Yankees system but struggled to find a permanent role after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021. Over parts of three seasons in the majors, he has pitched 23.1 innings with a 3.09 ERA, although command issues have lingered — this season alone, Gómez posted a 2.70 ERA across 10 innings but allowed nine walks while striking out just five batters.
Gómez Joins Dodgers Amid Heavy Rotation Needs
With the Dodgers battling a wave of pitching injuries to stars like Blake Snell, Tony Gonsolin, and Blake Treinen, Gómez offers immediate depth for a bullpen that's already shouldered a heavy workload.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts now has another multi-inning option available, as Gómez last pitched three innings for the Yankees earlier this week. Although he is out of minor league options and must remain on the active roster, the Dodgers are known for successfully rehabbing talented arms, making Gómez a low-risk, high-reward addition.

Originally signed by the Yankees out of Venezuela in 2016, Gómez was protected from the Rule 5 Draft in 2020 but never quite established himself in the majors.
His minor league numbers — a 3.63 ERA across 148.2 innings over the past two seasons — show promise despite a high walk rate.
With the Dodgers needing arms for spot starts and bullpen games while maintaining a weekly schedule for Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki, Gómez's arrival could prove valuable in a crucial early stretch of the 2025 season.
