Breaking: Royals & Orioles Complete Trade For Versatile Young Vet

The Kansas City Royals are acquiring 29-year-old four-year veteran infielder/outfielder Nick Gordon from the Baltimore Orioles in a trade completed on Saturday.

Gordon had spent the first three years of his big league career with the Minnesota Twins, after they made him a first-round pick, 5th overall, in the 2014 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Marlins for 2024, where he had a disappointing season, posting a .627 OPS with eight homers and five stolen bases in 260 plate appearances.

He's played every spot on the diamond except first base and catcher in his 338 major league games. He's hit a total of 23 home runs with 112 RBI and 21 stolen bases across that time, while posting a .669 career OPS.

2022 was the peak of Gordon's career to this point, when he hit 28 doubles with a .743 OPS (good for a 111 OPS+) in a career-high 136 games with the Twins.

After last year's failed season in Miami, Gordon signed a minor league deal this past winter with the Orioles, but at spring training, he batted just .107 in 30 plate appearances. He has gotten off to a nice start through four games at Triple-A Norfolk, batting .308 in 30 plate appearances.
