Breaking: Red Sox Hand Out 8-Year Extension to Rookie Kristian Campbell
Rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a eight-year, $60 million contract extension that includes two club options, sources tell ESPN. Campbell, 22, is expected to be a franchise cornerstone and is now locked up through 2034.

The deal also includes club options for 2033 and 2034. His contract breakdown sees the 22-year-old’s salary rise slowly, similar to the way it might have under pre-arbitration and his arbitration years.

Bonus- 2m
2025- 1m
2026- 2m
2027- 3m
2028- 4m
2029- 6m
2030- 9m
2031- 13m
2032- 16m
2033 club option- 19m / 4m buyout
2034 club option- 21m
He starts at $1M this season, and builds by a million per year for several seasons, before jumping a bit more starting in 2030, eventually landing at $16M in the 2032 season. He also receives a $2M signing bonus.
The club option for 2033 is $19 million and 2034 at $21 million, per Jeff Passan. That would take the full guarantee of the contract to $100 million over 10 years. If both options are exercised, Campbell would reach free agency at 32.
If he’s as good as scouts (and the Red Sox organization) think he’ll be, this will be a steal for the team.
Campbell has shown his tantalizing talent already, hitting .375 in his first five games in the bigs, with a homer and four runs scored. He has an OPS of 1.188. He hit .327 over the past two seasons in the minors, with 21 homers and 27 stolen bases along with a .986 OPS.
