Breaking: Huge Movement in Blue Jays Extension Talks With Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Latin American baseball insider Mike Rodriguez has reported that the Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are "very close" to signing a massive extension for the face of the franchise worth more than $500 million.

After Guerrero had set a deadline of the beginning of Spring Training for a contract to be done, the pending free agent said he wouldn't talk about a contract again until the end of the 2025 season, at which point he'd make himself available to all 30 teams.
Behind the scenes, however, talks have obviously continued, contrary to those public statements.
A year ago at this time, Guerrero was probably in line for an extension of about $150-$200 million tops, but then came a superb season in 2024 (after two so-so seasons), and that was followed by the $765 million Juan Soto contract with the NY Mets, which blew everything up on the free agent front.
Vladdy immediately bumped his price way up after the Soto signing, insisting he wanted at least $500 million, but that the Jays were not close as spring training began.
The Toronto front office has somehow come up with another $100-$150M that wasn't on the table before, if this half-billion dollar+ signing comes to fruition.

“The belief remains that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays will figure it out for close to $500 million”

Last year, Guerrero hit .323 with a .940 OPS while launching 30 home runs with 103 RBIs, and tying his career-best 167 OPS+.
So far this season, amidst the Jays' surprising 5-3 start, Vlad has a slash line of .267/.343/.367, and no homers with just three RBIs through eight games.
