Blue Jays Rumors: Insider Links Bo Bichette To NL Contender

Now that the Toronto Blue Jays have locked up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a massively insane contract (that there is very little chance he can ever live up to), it's time for the team to turn their attention to their other big pending free agent after the 2025 season, Bo Bichette.

Or is it?

Bichette has emphasized that he'd love to stay in Toronto long-term, but there are currently no contract talks going on whatsoever.

Spoke to Bo Bichette about a possible extension of his own, and winning championships with Guerrero Jr.:

Bichette's 2024 season was a disaster, in which he hit .225 and was 30% worse than the average major league hitter with an OPS+ of 70.

MLB Insider Buster Olney of ESPN, Speaking on TSN's First Up Tuesday morning, said he doesn't expect a contract to be "on the table" for Bo anytime soon,

First off, flat out, I doubt it. It's really hard to put a number on him coming off of last year... Signing Vladdy did absolutely take the pressure off the Blue Jays to do something with Bo Bichette. They were under so much pressure with the Vladdy negotiations. And now? If Bichette walks out the door in the fall, the Blue Jays can rightly say, 'Well, you know what? We've got the face of our franchise going forward'.

He then goes on to suggest that Bichette will, indeed, NOT be back in Toronto.

If I'm guessing, (Bichette) will be with another team next year... Because if he has a good year, there are going to be other teams (interested), like the Atlanta Braves, who need a shortstop.

The Braves make all the sense in the world. They've struggled to fill the void at short since Dansby Swanson left for the Chicago Cubs in free agency after the 2022 season. Atlanta GM Alex Anthopoulos's scouting staff in Toronto began eyeing Bichette as a high schooler in Florida just at the end of AA's reign as the Jays' GM. Could he now swoop in and bring him over to Atlanta?
