Atlanta Braves Sign Tigers' Top Prospect

The Atlanta Braves have signed Eddys Leonard to a minor league contract, just days after the 24-year-old was released by the Detroit Tigers.

Leonard had spent the last two seasons in Detroit’s system and was expected to compete for a roster spot this spring, but a poor showing in camp combined with past injuries may have hurt his chances.

In 2024, an oblique strain and a hamstring issue limited him to just 82 games, but he still managed a solid .263/.326/.455 slash line with 10 home runs in 282 plate appearances at Triple-A Toledo.

Originally developed in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ system, Leonard has yet to make his MLB debut despite six seasons in the minors.

Bringing a lot of versatility, he’s logged time at shortstop, second base, third, and all three outfield positions, though he focused more on infield work last season—likely a result of his injury recovery.

With the Braves, Leonard will report to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he’ll provide immediate depth. “He’s a guy with experience at multiple positions and some pop in his bat,” said one Braves official. “We’re excited to see what he can bring to the organization.”
