3 Teams Who Could Sign Free Agent OF David Peralta
David Peralta had a pretty decent season in a platoon role for the San Diego Padres in 2024, recording a .750 OPS and a 110 OPS+ almost exclusively against RHP, with eight homers in just 236 at-bats. He's a little far off now from his Gold Glove and Silver Slugger days with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2018, 2019), but he can still be a good bat from the left side in a platoon for a team in need.
He'll turn 38 later this season, but Peralta is a bat on the free agent market that could still be a viable major league hitter.
Here are three teams that could be looking to sign him:
San Diego Padres
Peralta arrived in San Diego in May of last season, and had some big hits and big moments, including batting .308 in the postseason with a .923 OPS and a big home run and four RBIs in five games. In his last 64 regular season games, he batted .289 with an OPS+ over 30% better than the average hitter.
As expected, the Friars haven't received too much out of Jason Heyward in left field this season and many Padres fans would like to see Peralta back.

Pittsburgh Pirates
No team has gotten less out of left field this season than the Pittsburgh Pirates. They have zero home runs, a .089 average, a .125 slugging and a .325 OPS out of their left fielders, mainly Tommy Pham and Jack Suwinski. Adding Peralta, at least to platoon with Pham, who's hitting just .111 against right-handers, would certainly help.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves are nearly as woeful as the Pirates in the left field corner, with Jurickson Profar long gone to the suspended list for 80 games, and Bryan De La Cruz and Eli White providing exactly zero homers and zero RBIs out of the position. GM Alex Anthopolous has done well bringing in veterans to cobble together a viable outfield in past years (Joc Pederson, Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler, Ramon Laureano), perhaps Peralta could be his next success.
