3 Potential Candidates To Help Fill Mariners' Depleted Infield

The Seattle Mariners are reeling in the infield currently, with three injuries wreaking havoc for them. Second baseman Ryan Bliss is out for months after biceps surgery, while outfielder Victor Robles' broken shoulder has forced first baseman Luke Raley into the outfield, and third baseman Jorge Polanco will be limited to DH duties for a while.

The M's are looking to plug some holes, both externally and internally, according to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times.

Polanco, the switch-hitter who has a team-leading .370 average and 10 RBIs, is now limited to hitting from the left side only as a DH, with "tenderness/soreness" in his side. So Dylan Moore has taken over at 3B.

Let's look at three options for the Mariners to bring in to help fill some of the vacancies:

Internal:

Ben Williamson

A 24-year-old prospect, the third baseman is off to a nice start at Triple-A Tacoma, with a .283 mark, with eight RBIs and a couple of stolen bases in 12 games. If he can come up and handle third, Moore can slide over to 2B, his best position.

External:

First base desperately needs some help. The current combo of Rowdy Tellez (.050 average with an OPS+ of MINUS-42... that would be 142% worse than the average major league hitter), and Donovan Solano (.111 average, minus-32 OPS+) certainly not getting the job done.

Nick Gordon

On a minor league deal with the KC Royals, the four-year MLB veteran is hitting .316 through six games at Triple-A. He was traded to the KC organization from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month. If the Royals aren't going to use him, perhaps the Mariners can work out a trade.

Gordon has played every spot on the diamond except first base and catcher in his 338 major league games, and has a career 23 home runs with 112 RBI and 21 stolen bases, with a .244 batting mark and a .669 career OPS.

Christian Arroyo

He's been around the majors for seven years, and is on a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. He's off to a .357 start to the season in Triple-A, with a 1.043 OPS with a couple of homers and nine RBIs through seven games. He has a career .252 average across 295 major league games. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2023 with the Boston Red Sox.

Arroyo can play 2B (mainly) as well as SS, 3B and even a little OF.
