White Sox Release Infielder Despite Leading Team In 6 Offensive Categories
Drury, 32, had been enjoying a red-hot spring, batting .410 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 41 plate appearances. Signed to a minor league deal in February, he was making a strong case for a spot on the Opening Day roster before the injury derailed those plans.
As an Article XX(B) free agent, Drury had the right to opt out if not added to the 40-man roster, and the team chose to part ways following the injury. “It’s a frustrating situation for both sides,” one source noted, as the injury occurred just as Drury was regaining form.

He hit .410 this Spring with 3-HR, and increased his bat speed by like 5mph

Drury’s 2024 season with the Los Angeles Angels was a struggle—he hit just .169 in 97 games—but his three-year stretch prior showed he could still contribute, with a .263 average and 118 wRC+ over 314 games.
With a lot of versatility at second, third, and the outfield, Drury could become an appealing depth option for teams seeking experienced infield help once he’s healthy.
Clubs like the Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Mets—each dealing with infield uncertainty—could explore adding him on a minor league deal. "I just want to play," Drury recently said during camp. “This is the best I’ve felt in a long time.”
This spring, Brandon Drury hit .410 with a .439 OBP and .821 SLG and 16 hits and 7 doubles and 11 RBI (leading the White Sox in all of those). https://t.co/Y7hn71qRdF

Meanwhile, the White Sox made additional roster moves, claiming right-hander Mike Vasil off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays and placing reliever Prelander Berroa on the 60-day IL following Tommy John surgery.
Vasil, 25, is still awaiting his MLB debut and gives the club another young arm to develop. With Drury out of the picture, Chicago is expected to rely on a mix of Lenyn Sosa, Josh Rojas, Nick Maton, and Jacob Amaya in the infield until top prospect Colson Montgomery is ready.
