Video: Tyler O'Neill Extends Shocking Major League Record
In one of the most bizarre major league marks in the record books, Tyler O'Neill has shocked baseball once again, homering on Opening Day for the sixth consecutive season.

The B.C.-born O'Neill was excited to play in his home country on Opening Day, and with plenty of family around, he blasted a three-run home run north of the border, off Toronto Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios in the third inning, to give the Baltimore Orioles an early 5-0 lead.
O'Neill signed with the O's this past offseason after spending the first six years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and then last season with the Boston Red Sox.
He says he first realized he had an historic Opening Day streak going when he tied the record in 2023, homering in the Cardinals’ first game of the season, leaving the yard on the special day for the fourth straight year. Todd Hundley (1994-97), Gary Carter (1977-80) and Yogi Berra (1955-58) also did it four straight seasons.
Then with the Red Sox last season he took the record all to himself.
But before today's game, he said he wasn't thinking about homering yet again on Opening Day:
“Pretty cool to be a part of history in that way. But it’s not like I’m going up there trying to hit a home run or anything crazy like that,” O’Neill said. “Last year, going into it, I knew what was at stake and might have tried a little harder last year compared to the other years".
It seems like it doesn't matter what's at stake. If it's Opening Day, expect Tyler O'Neill to launch an historic blast.
