Video: Ex-Yankee Nestor Cortes Has The Worst Return to the Bronx in History

He was a fan favorite in his time in the Bronx, but new Milwaukee Brewers starter Nestor Cortes was given the rudest homecoming welcome in the history of Yankee Stadium today. Watch:

Three pitches from Cortes, three homers to start the game. No pitches in between. Just three pitches and three home runs.

First, it was Paul Goldschmidt, in his first ever time batting leadoff in his 15-year career.

Then, another Yankee newcomer Cody Bellinger made it 2-0 New York on the next pitch from Cortes.

Finally, Aaron Judge, of course, with the capper of it all, a 468-foot moon shot, with a 115 mph exit velocity. 3-0 Yankees on three pitches from Cortes. Ouch.

But wait, it doesn't end there. 12 pitches and two outs later, it happened again.

Catcher Austin Wells adds to the carnage with another solo shot. Per Sarah Langs, this is the first time in the long, decorated 122-year history of the Yankees franchise that they hit four home runs in the first inning of a game.

Oh wait... There's more:

Anthony Volpe blasts his second homer in two games, a three-run shot, and Cortes, in two innings of work, surrendered 8 runs, and left the game with a 36.00 ERA.

The 30-year-old Cuban left-hander had a nice 3.61 ERA in his five seasons with the Yankees, including an All-Star 2022 campaign, when he went 12-4 with a 2.44 ERA. In his 7-year career, Cortes has surrendered only 1.4 homer per nine innings. This year, that ratio currently works out to 22.5 HR per nine.

Not exactly an auspicious debut for him with the Brew Crew. It probably took a few brews to wash this one away after the game.
