Sandy Alcantara Trade Coming Sooner or Later for Marlins

The Miami Marlins are getting a Cy Young winner back in the lineup this season... Or are they?

An MLB Network discussion on Thursday indicates that the Fish will be cutting bait on Sandy Alcantara this season and trading the 2022 Cy guy. The only question is when?

While insider Jon Morosi feels that Alcantara is on the radar of 29 other teams and will be traded at the deadline in July, his compatriot on the MLB Network set, Harold Reynolds, thinks it's coming sooner—like, before Opening Day.

"The Marlins are still in a state of transition, so they will likely listen at some point this season on Alcantara," says Morosi.

"He doesn't come out of spring training (with Miami)," says Reynolds. "You gotta make that move early... This is an established major leaguer... you know the work ethic, you're seeing the health... I'm telling you right now, teams will be lined up... I gotta move now because I don't want to give the other teams an opportunity."

Coming off Tommy John surgery, Alcantara missed the entire 2024 season, but looks to be all the way back this spring, firing on all cylinders.

Alcantara, 29, is owed $17M in 2025, $17M in 2026, and has a club option for $21M in 2027.

Back in 2022, he threw 228.2 innings, had a 2.28 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. Overall, in seven seasons, he has a 3.32 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP.
