NY Mets Place Pitcher Who Had 1.66 ERA On Waivers
When he pitched in the 2024 season, Sean Reid-Foley posted an impressive 1.66 ERA and 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings with the New York Mets. But he also spent much of the year on the injured list. He likely won't get a chance to get a crack at a job in Queens in 2025, as the Mets have placed him on outright waivers.

The move is a step towards removing him from the 40-man roster, but first it leaves him exposed to a claim from another team. He hasn't been designated for assignment.
It was only a couple of days ago that he was labeled a favorite to win a spot at the back of the Mets' bullpen—IF he could prove he was healthy. He's obviously had plenty of trouble doing that over his four years with the team.
Reid-Foley spent two separate stints on the IL in 2024 due to a right shoulder impingement, until he was officially shut down in late August. His injury troubles extend well beyond that, however. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022 which wiped out much of that season and he didn't return until August of 2023.
The pitcher is the last remnant of the trade that sent Steven Matz to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021.
In 71 big league innings, Reid-Foley has a 4.10 ERA and a 10.3 K/9 mark. Walks have always been a problem, however, as he averaged 5.7 BB per nine.
Now 28, he was a second-round pick of the Jays in 2014.
