MLB Rumors: Orioles & Mariners Linked To Potential Blockbuster Deal

The Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners have been linked in trade discussions surrounding All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo, with Baltimore looking to bolster its rotation after losing Corbin Burnes in free agency.

With Grayson Rodriguez set to miss time due to an elbow injury, the Orioles’ need for a frontline starter has only grown.

Meanwhile, the Mariners, boasting a deep rotation, could be open to moving Castillo in exchange for much-needed offensive reinforcements. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer noted that Baltimore "kicked the tires on Castillo and still fit him on paper," making them a logical trade partner for Seattle.

A proposed deal would see the Orioles send a package centered around outfielder Heston Kjerstad, alongside prospects Dylan Beavers and Creed Willems.

Kjerstad, 26, has shown promise but is blocked in Baltimore’s crowded outfield, while Beavers offers 20/20 potential, and Willems provides raw power and a strong arm behind the plate.

For the Mariners, adding three talented position players could help address their lineup struggles. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report predicted Castillo would land in Baltimore before the 2025 season ends, noting that the Orioles "almost have to be interested here" given their current rotation and expiring contracts for multiple starters.

Castillo, 32, has been a durable and consistent performer, logging at least 150 innings in each of the past four full seasons with an ERA under 4.00.

The biggest hurdle in any deal would be his contract, which carries a $25 million annual salary through 2027. However, if Seattle is willing to cover part of the cost, a trade could be a win-win for both clubs.
