MLB Rumors: Dodgers-Cardinals Linked To Blockbuster Trade
The Dodgers, fresh off a dominant 2024 World Series win, have continued adding elite talent this offseason, including Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, and Tanner Scott. With Hyeseong Kim recently optioned to Triple-A, there is speculation that Los Angeles could look to Arenado as a temporary or even long-term solution at third base.
Pressnell notes that "the Dodgers are on a short list of teams which Arenado would reportedly waive his no-trade clause for," making a deal feasible if the two sides can agree on financial terms and trade value.

The proposed trade would send Arenado and $25 million to the Dodgers in exchange for right-hander Bobby Miller, a 25-year-old starter with frontline potential.
The Cardinals, looking to move a significant portion of Arenado’s contract, would gain a high-upside arm to bolster their rotation. Pressnell suggests St. Louis "could bring in an All-Star for relatively cheap while Kim develops in the minor leagues," making the trade appealing for both teams.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, would add an elite defender and proven bat at third base, strengthening their lineup as they aim to become the first back-to-back champions since the 1999-2000 New York Yankees.

While the trade makes sense on paper, there are conflicting reports about the Dodgers' level of interest. The Athletic’s Katie Woo previously reported that Los Angeles "never matched Arenado’s interest," opting instead to stick with Max Muncy at third.
Arenado himself fueled speculation with a social media post featuring the song "dodger blue," but as things stand, he remains with the Cardinals.
The Dodgers are already much better than any other team in the league and, at a certain point, enough is enough. Thus, it seems unlikely they trade away a young starter for another veteran star.
