MLB Rumors: Blue Jays-Padres Linked To Blockbuster Deal
Jacob Mountz of FanSided pitched a deal that would send three-time All-Star and reigning batting champion Luis Arraez to the Blue Jays in exchange for pitching prospect Jake Bloss and power-hitting minor leaguer Charles McAdoo.
With George Springer struggling mightily—batting just .107 this spring after a disappointing 2024 season—the Blue Jays are desperate for a reliable leadoff option. Mountz believes Arraez could be the missing piece: “His contact-hitting brilliance makes him the perfect table-setter for any team.”

What batting average will Luis Arraez hit for this season? pic.twitter.com/TYLbV0bwPD
For Toronto, acquiring Arraez would fill a glaring need atop the lineup and bring an elite on-base presence ahead of sluggers like Guerrero, Bo Bichette, and newly signed Anthony Santander, who hit a career-high 44 home runs last year.
Arraez, who hit .314 with a .346 OBP in 150 games last season despite a thumb injury, would slot in perfectly as a designated hitter. The move could also signal one last push to convince Guerrero and Bichette to remain in Toronto beyond 2025.
As Mountz puts it, “If Arraez makes them a contender, the Blue Jays could make a push to keep all three players around.”

On the Padres’ side, while president AJ Preller hasn’t ruled out moving Arraez, he insists the infielder is “highly valued.”
Still, the Padres are aware of Arraez’s defensive limitations and the looming reality of his free agency. With plans to shift him to first base and a hefty extension likely required—Spotrac projects a nine-year, $154 million deal—San Diego could be tempted to deal him for a strong return.
Bloss, Toronto’s No. 6 prospect with a five-pitch mix and upside, and McAdoo, a rising bat with on-base skills and power potential, represent intriguing assets for a team balancing its future with present-day ambitions.
