Milwaukee Brewers Place Outfielder On Waivers
The move was made to clear space on the 40-man roster for first baseman Jake Bauers, who earned his spot with a strong spring performance.
Hicklen, 29, had a brief stint in the majors, appearing in three games for the Brewers last season and four for the Kansas City Royals in 2022. In nine career plate appearances, he has struck out eight times and is still looking for his first major league hit.
The Brewers DFA’d Brewer Hicklen to make room for Jake Bauers on the 40-man roster.

Notable: Brandon Woodruff opens the season on the 15-day IL, not the 60. Means the Brewers believe they can get him back before the last week of May. https://t.co/nCojFVWzux
Though Hicklen’s major league résumé is limited, his minor league numbers aren't much more encouraging. Over the past four seasons, he’s posted a .244/.352/.469 line with a 114 wRC+, while drawing walks at an 11.7% clip and stealing 140 bases.
His 30.7% strikeout rate is concerning, but teams looking for affordable, toolsy outfield depth could take a look. Hicklen has two minor league options remaining and minimal service time, which could make him a low-risk acquisition.
Unless traded or claimed on waivers in the coming days, Hicklen could remain in the Brewers' organization.
