Juan Soto Says "There Were 5 Frontrunners To Sign Me"

Believe it or not, there were teams that offered Juan Soto more than the $765 million that he got from the New York Mets. Really. He said so himself.

In addition, Soto outlined that he had five teams that were finalists competing for his services:

"There were five frontrunners teams to sign me," said Soto.

  • LA Dodgers
  • Toronto Blue Jays
  • Boston Red Sox
  • New York Yankees
  • New York Mets (spoiler: They won the sweepstakes)
The comments came in a Spanish language interview with Mike Rodriguez.
Then said, shockingly, "The Mets didn't offer the most money. Some teams offered more."

Insider Andy Martino seems to confirm this, reporting that teams were willing to go higher, if he was willing to go to them.

Martino said that the Yankees offered a 16-year, $760 million offer compared to the Mets' 15-year deal. He cited multiple reports indicating that Boston's final offer for Soto was around $700 million, as was the Blue Jays (in U.S. dollars, we assume).

The Dodgers' final offer, apparently, brought up the rear, at $600 million, per The Athletic.

But any of them might have given assurances that they would go higher than the Mets' offer if Soto would consider them.

Nevertheless, the four-time All-Star, and four-time top-6 MVP finisher will be in Queens for the next 15 years, and he's already been installed as the MVP favorite this season.
