The Baltimore Orioles have acquired some pitching depth, swinging a deal with the Chicago Cubs for former New York Yankees pitcher Cody Poteet.

The Cubs get the old standby "cash considerations" in return.
Poteet was acquired by the Cubbies from New York in the Cody Bellinger trade this past winter. But he was DFA'd by them just two days ago.
The 30-year-old right-hander had a decent season for the Yankees in a handful of appearances in 2024, posting a 2.22 ERA in four starts and one relief outing covering 24.1 innings. He had a 1.07 WHIP and a 16:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Poteet has been optioned by the O's to Triple-A Norfolk for now, as he only got into 3 innings during spring training. But he'll eventually provide depth to the rotation and potentially the bullpen. The Orioles’ 40-man roster currently sits at 39 players.
He previously pitched in a couple of seasons for the Miami Marlins, and over 83 total major league innings, he has a 3.80 ERA and has held batters to a .216 average.
