BREAKING: Red Sox Sign Garrett Crochet To MASSIVE Extension

The Boston Red Sox have locked up their new ace pitcher Garrett Crochet after just one start with the team, signing the southpaw to a six-year, $170 million extension.

The new contract kicks in next season, and includes an opt-out for Crochet after the 2030 season.

As insider Jeff Passan notes, this is "by far" the largest deal in baseball history for a pitcher with just 4+ years of service.

Crochet had pitched only 72 innings at the big league level over his first three seasons due to injuries and middling performance. Then, never having started a single game in the majors, he kicked the door down in a big way in 2024, busting out with a terrific All-Star season for the Chicago White Sox. He started 32 games, tossed 146 innings, posted a 3.58 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP and struck out 209 batters against only 33 walks.

The Red Sox went into the offseason in dire need of an ace for their otherwise decent starting staff, and were able to swing a big trade to land Crochet. After a spectacular spring training in which he posted a 0.57 ERA, giving up just one run in 15.2 innings, and striking out an eye-popping 30 batters (a ridiculous 18 K/9), and then his first start in which he went five innings in a 5-2 Boston win, he is now entrenched as the ace of the BoSox staff well into the 2030s.
