Breaking MLB News: Major Announcement on Diamondbacks' Starter Jordan Montgomery

After a disastrous 2024 season for the left-hander, Jordan Montgomery was on the trade block this past winter as the Arizona Diamondbacks were looking to move on from the $22.5M contract he picked up with his option for 2025. Those plans have drastically changed as Montgomery has announced that he will have Tommy John surgery next week.

According to a report, Montgomery felt some elbow pain in his last spring start and went for an MRI. Needless to say, the results of the imaging showed the worst-case scenario, and he'll be undergoing the dreaded TJ surgery which will keep him off the mound for the entire 2025 season.

Montgomery, 32, only pitched three innings this spring, allowing five earned runs.

His 2024 season was ravaged by a scuttled free agency period which left him hanging all spring, and signing with Arizona on the eve of the season. He was forced to play catch-up all year and it resulted in a 6.23 ERA, nearly double his ERA of a successful 2023 season with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, that culminated with him earning a World Series ring.

After that free agency debacle, in which he was urged to seek a massive long-term contract that never materialized, he fired agent Scott Boras, and was hoping to find new hope this season, with Arizona, or somewhere else.

He'll be a free agent once again at the conclusion of the 2025 baseball season.
