Breaking: Last Notable Free Agent Pitcher Jose Quintana Signs With NL Contender

The New York Mets didn't want him back despite a couple of solid seasons in their rotation, so 36-year-old Jose Quintana had to wait things out on the free agent market all winter. A couple of weeks into spring training, he's finally found a taker, signing with the Milwaukee Brewers.

It's a one-year deal, terms not released.

Quintana has been sneaky good over the last few seasons in his advancing years into the 30s. He's one of just 14 pitchers since 2022 to throw at least 400 innings and have an ERA+ of 115 or better, while keeping his home runs allowed to a minimum, with a HR/9 under 1 (0.8) over that span.

He's also been a playoff beast, with a 2.29 ERA in 4 postseason starts.

In his past two years with the Mets, Quintana posted a 3.70 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and a 195:87 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

He'll now join Freddy Peralta, Nestor Cortes, Aaron Civale and youngster Tobias Myers in the Brewers rotation.

Quintana is a 13-year veteran who has also pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants.
