Blue Jays News: Toronto Makes Massive New Offer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to open their 2025 season at 3:00 pm Eastern today. And the face of their franchise remains unsigned. However, we're hearing from a baseball insider that another offer has been made, in a last-ditch attempt to reach an agreement before first pitch.

Buster Olney of ESPN says that "a gap still remains between the two sides."

According to Hector Gomez, however, "The Blue Jays' offer would be in the range of 14-15 years and $550-600 million." That sounds like it could get it done, doesn't it?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had set a deadline of the start of spring training back in mid-February for the Toronto Blue Jays to come to an agreement on a new contract extension for the pending free agent. And when he showed up on Feb. 18th, he said he was done negotiating... He'll be open to offers from all 30 teams after the season.

Yet, we continue to hear some sort of confidence from the Blue Jays that they can still sign him. The word from insiders was that the two sides were $100 million apart at the start of camp. And further confirmation came from noted baseball people in the know that Guerrero wanted at least a $500 million deal.

Jays insider Shi Davidi said on Sportsnet 590 radio Thursday morning that "They both want to stay together. I don't think this is something that either side will totally walk away from. Maybe a Hail Mary pass connects, but I don't think that it's the case right now."

The Jays could have had Guerrero for more than $300 million less had they gotten serious about re-signing him last year at this time, but the front office of Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins dropped the ball, and now they're in a very difficult situation.

We'll see how this all plays out... Either before first pitch, or 162 games from now.
