"Shut Your Pie-Hole!": Boston Media Personality Slams Triston Casas For 3B Comments
The third base mess in Boston continues, as Rafael Devers is in a snit over the acquisition of free agent Gold Glover Alex Bregman. Devers, the longtime Red Sox third baseman, defines himself as a third baseman, and a third baseman only. He has refused to consider moving to DH (or elsewhere).
As if that wasn't enough to deal with, however, now youngster Triston Casas, the first baseman (for now), has weighed in on the controversy this past week:
“It’s Raffy Devers’ position,” Casas said. “He’s the third baseman and at that point, that’s where it stands, and he’s done it for a really long time now and he’s only getting better at the position. His defense is getting better every single year, we don’t know what the future holds but we know it holds Raffy Devers.”
Now Boston radio personality Tony Massarotti has joined the fray, absolutely BLASTING Casas for opening his mouth and getting involved:
Shut your pie hole. Shut your pie hole. This guy knows everything. I’ve been saying this for a couple of years... He’s got the answers to everything. He knows it all... When he fields a ball in a certain situation, he’s already done all the calculations in his head — even if he makes the wrong decision and tries to get the wrong guy out at third base when there isn’t a force play involved. Oh my gosh, does he have all the answers!
This guy’s an a-hole. He’s an a-hole… Seriously, this kid’s got his head up his ass.
And then we wonder why old people don’t like Casas pic.twitter.com/88whECBMZm

But it won't be Devers, Bregman or Casas (or Massarotti) making the lineup calls. That'll be manager Alex Cora, who just wants the whole kerfuffle to die down for a while.
“We’re gonna make decisions based on competition and roster flexibility and versatility, and we’re gonna take our best 26 guys to Texas (for Opening Day)," said Cora, per the New York Post.
Casas, for his part, might not have to worry about the drama for too long, as he has been on the trade block quite a bit over the offseason. The recent top prospect had a disappointing 2024, hitting just 13 home runs in 63, after finishing 3rd in Rookie of the Year balloting the previous season, with 24 homers and an .856 OPS in 132 games.
And if he does make it through the season in Boston, the Red Sox are said to be angling to sign a major free agent to play first in 2026 and into the future.
