San Francisco Giants Sign Veteran Pitcher
Trivino, 33, hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2022 due to Tommy John surgery and lingering arm issues, but he recently impressed in a bullpen session, drawing interest from multiple teams.
The move reunites him with manager Bob Melvin, who oversaw Trivino’s best years with the Oakland Athletics. “Lou was a key part of some great teams in Oakland,” Melvin said. “We know what he’s capable of when he’s healthy.”

Trivino was a reliable late-inning arm for the A’s, posting a 2.92 ERA as a rookie in 2018 and serving as the team’s closer in 2021 with 22 saves.
After a rough start in 2022, he thrived following a trade to the New York Yankees, recording a 1.66 ERA in 25 appearances. His mid-90s sinker and sharp slider, which limited hitters to a .109 batting average that season, could make him a valuable addition if he’s fully recovered.
The Giants’ bullpen depth took a hit with Taylor Rogers traded to Cincinnati Reds, leaving Camilo Doval, Tyler Rogers, and Ryan Walker as the team’s primary late-inning options.

San Francisco is looking for low-cost, high-upside signings as it aims to improve on last season’s fourth-place finish in the NL West.
