MLB Rumors: Proposed Trade Sends Vladimir Guerrero Jr. To Diamondbacks

A mock trade proposal by Zach Pressnell of FanSided has the Toronto Blue Jays sending Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a blockbuster deal

With contract talks between Guerrero and Toronto at a standstill and free agency looming after the 2025 season, the Blue Jays could move him before risking his departure for nothing.

Arizona, fresh off a 2023 World Series appearance, has already made an aggressive push this offseason by acquiring Corbin Burnes, and adding Guerrero would strengthen their offense in the race against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pressnell's proposal has Arizona sending four young players to Toronto: shortstop Tommy Troy, outfielder Druw Jones, right-handed pitcher Yilber Diaz, and third baseman Gino Groover

“Troy and Jones, both top 100 prospects, lead this loaded hypothetical trade package,” Pressnell wrote. “Troy, 23, struggled in 2024, but his talent is undeniable… Jones, 21, is a former No. 2 overall pick who destroyed Low-A pitching last season.”

Diaz, 24, debuted in the majors last season and has the potential to stick in Arizona’s rotation, while Groover has posted a .281/.362/.450 slash line in two minor league seasons.

This deal would give Toronto high-upside prospects and near-MLB-ready talent.

For Arizona, Guerrero’s arrival would likely push Josh Naylor to the outfield, creating a powerful lineup with Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and Gabriel Moreno

The Diamondbacks would be banking on Guerrero’s production while also getting the first chance to extend him before free agency.

Pressnell notes that “giving up four talented prospects would likely mean the Diamondbacks view Guerrero as more than a rental.”

If Toronto struggles early in 2025, this type of trade could gain momentum leading up to the July 31 deadline, as multiple teams, including Arizona, could make a serious push for the All-Star first baseman.
