MLB Rumors: 3 Trade Ideas For Red Sox' Rafael Devers

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed three blockbuster trade scenarios involving Rafael Devers as tensions rise between the slugger and the Boston Red Sox.

Devers, who signed an 11-year, $331 million extension in 2023, was reportedly blindsided by the team’s signing of Alex Bregman and has no interest in moving off third base.

When asked if he would request a trade if forced to change positions, he responded, “I don’t think that was the right way to do business.” With Boston still aiming to contend in 2025, a trade would need to bring immediate value rather than a long-term rebuild.

One possible destination is the Detroit Tigers, who could send Spencer Torkelson, reliever Alex Lange, and top shortstop prospect Bryce Rainer to Boston.

This deal would give the Red Sox a chance to develop Torkelson’s power potential while the Tigers add a true middle-of-the-order bat.

The Seattle Mariners could also make a strong offer by trading ace Luis Castillo and top catching prospect Harry Ford, a move that would bolster Boston’s rotation while giving Seattle much-needed offensive firepower alongside Julio Rodríguez.

A final scenario involves the Toronto Blue Jays in a straight-up swap for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., which would give Boston a proven Fenway slugger with a shorter contract commitment while Toronto secures a long-term middle-of-the-order anchor.

If Devers refuses to accept a DH role, the Red Sox may have no choice but to move him before tensions escalate further.

Despite his defensive struggles, he remains one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball, leading MLB in extra-base hits since 2019.

His contract is massive, but his offensive production makes him an appealing target for teams looking for a franchise cornerstone.
