Mets' Francisco Alvarez Takes Shot At Dodgers Lineup

Francisco Álvarez isn’t backing down from his belief that the New York Mets have the best lineup in baseball, even better than the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Speaking with Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets' young catcher made a bold claim, saying, “I think we are better than the Dodgers (lineup),” doubling down on an earlier statement.

Teammate Mark Vientos supported him, adding, “I can agree with that, honestly. I think Steve [Cohen] and David [Stearns] put together a pretty good lineup.”

The comments come just months after the Dodgers eliminated the Mets in the NLCS, outscoring them 46-20 in six games.

The Mets enter 2025 with a reloaded offense, headlined by Juan Soto’s record-setting 15-year, $765 million deal and the return of Pete Alonso on a two-year, $54 million contract.

With Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo also in the mix, New York believes its offense can stand against any team.

However, the Dodgers remain the benchmark with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman anchoring a lineup that finished first in OPS (.781) and third in home runs (233) last season.

They also retained Teoscar Hernández, keeping their championship-winning core mostly intact. While the Mets have made strides, virtually every analyst still views the Dodgers as baseball’s most dangerous lineup.

New York will have its chance to back up Álvarez’s words when the two teams meet in May, with another showdown set for June in Los Angeles.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes acknowledged the Mets’ improvements and expects a fierce battle “for years to come.”
