LA Angels Get Familiar News on Anthony Rendon
In what will be one of the least surprising developments of the 2025 major league season, Anthony Rendon will be out "long-term", after an announcement that he is having hip surgery.

According to beat writer Sam Blum, not only will the $245 million man will be out "a long period of time", but it now "becomes unclear if and when he’ll play for the Angels again."
This shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone around the game of baseball.
Rendon has missed 451 of 708 potential games since signing that albatross of 7-year, $245M deal with the Angels before the 2020 season.
That means he's been available for only 36% of the team's games over the last five seasons, and that number will diminish significantly after 2025 is done.
And when he has been on the field, he has been an utter shell of his former All-Star and MVP finalist (2019) self. He's hit .242 for the Angels, 50 points below his career average up to then, with a .717 OPS, 140 points below his pre-Angels number of .859, and he's hit just 22 home runs total over the five-year span.
Last year, in 57 games he posted a woeful .574 OPS with zero homers and a 66 OPS+ (34% worse than the average hitter).
Unquestionably a top-5 worst contract in the history of pro sports

Perhaps the Angels knew this was coming (or maybe they just looked at Rendon's history over the last five years) and signed Yoan Moncada for third base just last week.
