Alex Bregman's 3 Best Team Fits (and 2 Worst) by Ballpark Factors
The Alex Bregman Drama continues in Houston and on several other fronts. Where should the longtime Astros third baseman sign as a free agent? Insider Ken Rosenthal has ranked the best fits for Bregman by best ballpark factors to suit his game.
3 Best Fits for Bregman
Per Rosenthal, and according to Statcast, the park factors for right-handed hitters over the last three seasons rank these three top suitors as Bregman's best fits:
Boston Red Sox
Fenway Park ranks 4th in the majors as a hitting haven for right-handed hitters over the last three years. And indeed, Bregman has knocked the cover off the ball in Boston over the years, with a 1.240 OPS, a .375 average and seven home runs in 21 games.
Toronto Blue Jays
Rogers Centre places seventh-best in that category. However, Bregman has only a .777 career OPS in Toronto, with just three homers in 22 games.
Houston Astros
Daikin Park (Wait, what? Yes, this is the new name for the former Minute Maid Park, which is the former Enron Field), was 14th best, at least in the top half of the majors, in right-handed hitting offense. His home numbers over his career there feature an .847 OPS with 94 HR and 328 RBIs in 550 games in the ballpark.
2 Worst Fits for Bregman
Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers
Bregman's offense has been slipping a bit year over year as he's now on the wrong side of 30. He's gone from an .820 OPS with a 134 OPS+ in 2022, to an .804 OPS and 122 OPS+ in 2023, down to a .768 OPS and 118 OPS+ last season.
Wrigley Field has been the third-most difficult park for right-handed hitters the past three seasons. He's only played three games in his career there, so it's hard to say how he'd adjust to it, though the park factors don't bode well.
Comerica Park in Detroit has been the eighth-most difficult for righties over that time. Lifetime, he has just a .227 average and a .702 OPS in Comerica, though he does have 16 RBIs in 21 games there.
