Report: Mets "Putting Together A Package" To Acquire Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The New York Mets have reportedly "checked in" with the Toronto Blue Jays and are "putting together a package" to try and acquire Vladimir Guerrero Jr., according to SNY's Andy Martino and insider Mike Rodriguez.
The inquiry comes as the Mets navigate Pete Alonso's free agency and look at alternatives for first base. While Guerrero is not believed to be on the trading block, the Mets’ interest is part of their efforts to solidify a roster already bolstered by the historic signing of Juan Soto to a 15-year, $765 million contract.
Pairing Guerrero with Soto would create one of baseball's most fearsome lineups, though Martino described the possibility as "in the realm of fantasy baseball."

Guerrero, 25, is entering his final year of arbitration after agreeing to a $28.5 million deal for 2025 and has set a spring training deadline for extension talks with the Blue Jays.
Following a resurgent season in which he hit .323 with 30 home runs and 103 RBIs, Guerrero remains a cornerstone for a Toronto team looking to rebound from a disappointing 74-88 finish.
The Blue Jays have made moves to compete, signing All-Star reliever Jeff Hoffman and acquiring second baseman Andrés Giménez. However, uncertainty lingers, with both Guerrero and fellow star Bo Bichette nearing free agency.
BREAKING: Per @mikedeportes and @hgomez27, the Mets are in legitimate pursuit of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and are “working on a package.”

Personally, I would take this with a grain of salt. However, there is a possibility that the Mets are strongly pursuing Vladdy. pic.twitter.com/PczJGt9S87
If Alonso signs elsewhere and Toronto falters in 2025 or fails to extend Guerrero, speculation around a midseason trade could grow.
