MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Fits For Luis Castillo Trade
The Seattle Mariners continue to try to find ways to add a big bat this winter, as they cannot go into the 2025 season without a boost for their offense. There's word that ace pitcher Luis Castillo has been a name cropping up in trade talks, and we take a look now at three teams that would be great fits for a trade for the 32-year-old three-time All-Star.
Baltimore Orioles
The O's contention window is wide open right now, and after losing their ace starter Corbin Burnes in free agency, they are in dire need of landing another primo pitcher to head up their rotation. Castillo would be the answer, and the Orioles certainly have some young rising hitting prospects they could send to Seattle in return.
Chicago Cubs
After their huge trade to land superstar Kyle Tucker — an impending free agent — it's "all-in" for the Cubs in 2025. They must not stop now, and landing a third premier starter for the rotation to go with Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga is crucial. And even more, finding an arm with much more proven staying power over a long career. Castillo would be the answer for the Cubbies.
Detroit Tigers
After a surprise playoff appearance in 2024, the Tigers need to push forward and continue to build a rotation around Tarik Skubal. Adding Alex Cobb, whose 2024 was pretty much wiped out due to hip surgery, can be considered a minor short-term move, but he probably can't be expected to be anything more than a No. 4, or a No. 3 at best if he returns to his younger form.
Adding another ace-like arm like Castillo behind Skubal would be the kind of move the Tigers really need to make. They have a strong farm system and could offer some nice assets to Seattle in return. However, if the Mariners are looking for an immediate big bat to plug into their lineup in the trade, Detroit probably won't be their best trade partner.
Other teams that have been mentioned of interest are the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox, though both have made other prominent additions to their rotations recently.
