MLB Rumors: Trade Destinations For Tigers' Spencer Torkelson
With Colt Keith slated to take over at first base, Tigers president Scott Harris said that Torkelson could still carve out a role if he has a strong offseason and spring. However, after hitting just .219/.295/.374 with 10 home runs in 92 games last season and spending significant time in Triple-A, his future in Detroit is in question.
“This team needs more right-handed power, and we’ve seen Tork do that in the past,” Harris said, but trading Torkelson may be the best way for the Tigers to address other needs while he still holds some value.

Several teams could emerge as logical landing spots, according to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors.
The San Francisco Giants, seeking power at first base and designated hitter, could look at Torkelson as a long-term piece alongside Bryce Eldridge, especially with LaMonte Wade Jr. in the final year of his contract.
The Seattle Mariners, whose offseason additions include only Donovan Solano, may find Torkelson appealing as a cost-controlled power bat to fill needs at first base or DH.
Both clubs could benefit from betting on Torkelson’s potential, particularly given his second-half improvement in 2023, where he posted a .238/.318/.498 line, while not much, hinted at a rebound.
The craziest thing about me is that I still believe Spencer Torkelson can be a really good MLB player

Rebuilding teams like the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies also make sense as destinations. Miami’s infield depth chart, headlined by Jonah Bride, offers Torkelson a chance for regular playing time, while Colorado’s hitter-friendly Coors Field could provide the perfect setting for unlocking his power potential.
With Charlie Blackmon’s departure and Kris Bryant’s durability concerns, the Rockies could gamble on Torkelson’s upside as they look to retool.
Moving him now could help recoup value for the Tigers before his struggles risk diminishing his trade appeal further.
