MLB Rumors: Astros Interested In Acquiring All-Star Infielder
Polanco would be a versatile addition, with switch-hitting ability and consistent production, who could fill multiple roles for Houston, particularly with the uncertain future of longtime third baseman Alex Bregman, currently a free agent.
Polanco has primarily played in the middle infield during his career but has expressed openness to exploring new positions, including left field, as the Astros look to balance their heavily right-handed lineup.

Despite a tough 2024 season with the Seattle Mariners, where Polanco hit .213/.296/.355 while managing a knee injury, he remains an appealing rebound candidate.
He underwent successful postseason surgery and is expected to be fully healthy for spring training. Polanco’s strong track record from 2021 to 2023, when he was among the league’s top offensive second basemen, makes him a interesting target for Houston, whose general manager, Dana Brown, has said the team is focused on bolstering its depth and versatility.
“Polanco is a proven player who can fit seamlessly into a contending team’s roster,” an executive noted.
The 4th best 2B in Twins history is Jorge Polanco. Has the 4th most hits, doubles & walks by a 2B. Third in RBIs & hit 2nd most HRs by a Twins 2B. Extremely clutch with RISP as a Twin hitting .315/.368/.539. Really grinded out at bats. A pros pro…

The Astros’ interest comes as they manage tight financial constraints after trading reliever Ryan Pressly to create some breathing room under the luxury tax threshold.
While Polanco’s team-friendly contract, including a 2025 club option, adds to his appeal, Houston may need to offload additional payroll if his price rises.
