MLB Rumors: 3 Outfield Trade Targets For Astros

After trading Kyle Tucker, the Houston Astros are focused on finding a left-handed hitting outfielder to balance their lineup, according to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors

With Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick projected as starters in center and right field, left field remains a question mark. Former top prospect Taylor Trammell and utility man Mauricio Dubón are internal options, but neither offers the consistent offensive production Houston needs.

General Manager Dana Brown acknowledged the urgency, saying, “We’re focused on finding a left-handed hitter to balance our lineup.”

Among the trade options, Jesús Sánchez of the Marlins emerges as a cost-effective solution with upside. The 27-year-old posted a .252/.313/.417 line with 18 home runs and 16 stolen bases last season, showcasing steady offense and reliable corner outfield defense.

Another potential target is Mike Yastrzemski of the Giants, who hit 18 home runs in 2024 and carries a .437 slugging percentage.

Though set to earn $9.25 million in arbitration, Yastrzemski offers a proven bat and would provide immediate power to Houston’s lineup. Minnesota’s Willi Castro is also a candidate, combining switch-hitting versatility with consistent production over the past two seasons, slashing .251/.334/.395 while logging over 800 innings in left field.

While more ambitious targets like Jake McCarthy or Alec Burleson could also be considered, the Astros’ limited farm system after trading Tucker likely steers them toward a more pragmatic approach.

Sánchez, Yastrzemski, or Castro represent attainable upgrades who could fill Houston’s left field vacancy without jeopardizing their competitive timeline or long-term depth.
