MLB Rumors: 3 Trade Destinations For Marcus Stroman

The New York Yankees are exploring trade options for Marcus Stroman as they aim to shed his $18 million salary for 2025.

After posting a 4.31 ERA during a lackluster 2024 campaign, Stroman is now viewed as an expendable piece in a crowded Yankees rotation.

However, his effectiveness on the road, where he recorded a 3.09 ERA, and his ground-ball-heavy style make him a valuable target for teams seeking stability and depth in their pitching staff.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report has listed a few potential landing spots, one being the Detroit Tigers, where Stroman's skill set could thrive in pitcher-friendly Comerica Park. Rymer suggests a deal that would send veteran Kenta Maeda and young starter Matt Manning to New York, giving the Yankees financial relief and a mix of experience and upside in return.

The San Francisco Giants also emerge as a strong fit, with a proposed trade involving Stroman and Yankees prospect George Lombard Jr. in exchange for infielder Marco Luciano. This move would bolster the Giants' rotation while providing the Yankees with a high-upside infield option to address their long-term needs.

A creative scenario involves the San Diego Padres, who are in need of rotation reinforcements after losing Joe Musgrove for 2025. Rymer envisions a trade where Stroman, pitching prospect Will Warren, and cash are sent to San Diego for infielder Luis Arraez.

This deal would give the Yankees a consistent contact hitter to slot ahead of Aaron Judge in the lineup, while the Padres would solidify their rotation without significantly increasing their payroll.
