Los Angeles Dodgers Sign Korean Star Free Agent

The Los Angeles Dodgers have added Korean Baseball Organization star Hye-seong Kim to their infield with a three-year, $12.5 million deal that includes options for 2028-29, potentially bringing the total value to $22 million.

Kim, a 25-year-old infielder, joins the Dodgers after an impressive eight-season career with the Kiwoom Heroes, where he hit .304 and won four Golden Gloves. In 2024, Kim slashed .326/.383/.458 with 11 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases, showcasing his ability to contribute on both offense and defense.

Bringing speed and ability to play multiple positions, Kim's addition strengthens the Dodgers' depth as they prepare to defend their World Series title.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes praised Kim as a "really talented player" with a "strong defensive skill set and real upside to the bat," while also noting his ability to play second base, shortstop, and third base.

The Dodgers plan to use Mookie Betts at shortstop and Gavin Lux at second base, but Kim’s flexibility allows him to fit seamlessly into a roster already featuring Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor, and Tommy Edman.

Kim’s elite base-running ability, with seven consecutive seasons of 20 or more stolen bases, adds an exciting element to a team focused on maintaining its competitive edge.

Manager Dave Roberts expressed enthusiasm for Kim’s signing, calling it "a great move for a team looking to build on last year’s success."

To make room for Kim and finalize a three-year extension for Teoscar Hernández, the Dodgers designated former top catching prospect Diego Cartaya for assignment.

With Kim joining Hernández as key offseason acquisitions, Roberts said the team is "confident and ready to keep building toward another title."
