Former Blue Jay Cavan Biggio Signs Free Agent Deal With New Team

He spent the 2024 season with four different teams, and now Cavan Biggio has joined his 5th organization in the last seven months, signing a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals.

Biggio spent the first 5 1/2 years of his major league career with the Toronto Blue Jays. But beginning in June of 2024, he's had a whirlwind of a time, practically living out of his suitcase:

  • June 12, 2024: Traded from Blue Jays to LA Dodgers
  • August 8, 2024: Released by Dodgers
  • Aug. 24, 2024: Signed to minor league deal by San Francisco Giants
  • Sept. 7, 2024: Traded from Giants to Atlanta Braves
  • Nov. 1, 2024: Elects to become a free agent
  • Jan. 5, 2025: Signs minor league deal with Royals

In 44 games with Toronto last season, he hit .200 with a 78 OPS+; with the Dodgers, he got into 30 games and batted .192 with an 82 OPS+.
With the Giants, he never made it out of the minors to appear in any MLB game. He got into just four contests (five at-bats) with the Braves.

Biggio is known for his versatility to play all around the diamond. Throughout his six seasons in the majors, he has played at least one game at every position on the field, except for pitcher and catcher.

But after a decent first couple of seasons at the plate with the Jays, which saw him post OPS marks around the .800 mark with an OPS+ of 122 and then 113, his offense dropped off considerably until he was pretty much unusable. He has hit just .216 since 2020 with a .673 OPS and an 88 OPS+. One thing Biggio can do is draw some walks; He does have a career on-base percentage of .341.
