Cincinnati Reds & San Francisco Giants Complete Trade

The Cincinnati Reds have strenghend their bullpen by acquiring left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor league right-hander Braxton Roxby.

The Giants will send $6 million to help cover Rogers’ $12 million salary for 2025, the final season of his three-year, $33 million contract.

Rogers, 34, posted a 2.40 ERA over 64 appearances last season but has seen his velocity and strikeout rate decline for three straight years.

Despite that, Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall believes Rogers will be a key late-inning arm, saying, “Taylor brings experience and consistency to our bullpen, and we’re excited to add him to the mix.”

Rogers has been one of the more durable left-handed relievers in baseball, with a career 3.34 ERA, 83 saves, and 98 holds over 509 outings.

Though primarily a setup man, he has multiple 30-save seasons and excels at limiting walks and generating ground balls.

He joins Brent Suter and Sam Moll as the Reds’ third lefty reliever, providing veteran depth for a bullpen that finished 18th in MLB last season with a 4.09 ERA.

With the offseason departures of Buck Farmer and Justin Wilson, as well as the trade of Fernando Cruz to the New York Yankees, Cincinnati prioritized adding a proven late-inning option.

For the Giants, dealing Rogers creates payroll flexibility and adds a hard-throwing arm to their farm system.

Roxby, 25, has yet to pitch in the majors but showed promise in Double-A Chattanooga, where he posted a 12.1 K/9 rate despite control issues.

The move also breaks up the Rogers twins, leaving Taylor’s brother, Tyler, as one of the few remaining left-handed options in San Francisco’s bullpen.

With only three lefties now on their 40-man roster—Robbie Ray, Kyle Harrison, and Erik Miller—the Giants may look to add another reliever before the season begins.
