Blue Jays Rumors: 3 Trade Destinations for Bo Bichette

Bo Bichette's days are nearing an end with the Toronto Blue Jays. This we learned earlier this week from a tip from one of the shortstop's friends.

Although he's coming off a brutal 2024 season, and the Jays would have to sell low, they may be forced to trade the two-time All-Star sooner or later as he is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.

With that, let's have a look at three trade destinations for Bichette:

Atlanta Braves

The Braves are one team that's been talked about as a Bichette landing spot. Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos left Toronto months before the current regime drafted Bichette in 2016, but he would love to get his hands on him now at a potential discount. Atlanta had problems at shortstop last season as Orlando Arcia managed only a .218 average and an equally dreary .625 OPS. Bichette's career marks are a .290 avg, and a .798 OPS with a 119 OPS+.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Sure, the defending World Series champs have named Mookie Betts as their starting shortstop for 2025, but that's really only because he wants to play there and he's their best option at the moment. The Dodgers have also added Hyeseong Kim out of Korea this offseason to bolster the infield, but he was projected to be a utilityman until the team traded regular second baseman Gavin Lux last week to the Cincinnati Reds.

Bringing in a star SS like Bichette could either slide Betts over to second base, which is a better option from a defensive perspective, or perhaps they ask Bichette to play 2B, while Kim can go back to being a utility option.

San Diego Padres

The Friars are about to lose Gold Glover Ha Seong Kim in free agency, so a pivot to land Bichette makes a ton of sense for them. No, Bichette will never be mistaken for a Gold Glove candidate at short, but if he gets his offensive mojo back, he would add far more to the Padres' batting order than Kim ever did.
