Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sets Quick Deadline on Extension Talks With Blue Jays
Many players don’t like to talk contract once the season begins. They just want to concentrate on playing. But Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr—in an ominous sign for the team—has set a deadline of the first day of spring training. After that, no more extension talks. Vladdy would then become a free agent at the end of the season.
And that last $340 million offer Toronto came to him with? That ain’t even close to getting it done, intimates Guerrero.
Speaking on a Spanish language podcast this weekend, Guerrero opened up about it all, and it doesn't sound good for Jays fans.
We’ve heard a little from them, but (their offer) is not even close to what we’re looking for.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. says he’s been discussing a possible extension w/ Blue Jays & is “ready to go” on a long-term deal for the right offer. Also: he says he doesn’t plan to negotiate after 1st full day of spring training & Jays front office knows this https://t.co/dZsxXA6ghL
About the only promising thing that Vladdy said, as far as Jays fans would be concerned, is that he is “ready to go” on a long-term deal. But—for the right offer.
He added that he was offered $150M over 7 years after his near-MVP season of 2021. The team has come up a couple of hundred million since then, but after the Juan Soto $765M deal with the New York Mets this offseason, everything has changed.
Guerrero is coming off a monster 2024 season, hitting .323 with 30 homers and 103 RBI with a .940 OPS.
